Is there a 5-year review of my finances to see if I gave away anything before Medicaid will pay for nursing home care?
In New York, Medicaid will review your finances for five years. That includes bank statements, financial records, they’ll look to see if there are any other transfers, houses and other assets. The best thing you can do is to plan ahead as much as you can. Perhaps use a trust, but any planning that you do and any gifting that you do, in anticipation of a nursing home, should be done under the advice of legal counsel.
